About
ASIWO

Elevated everyday womenswear, made in Ghana. Solid fabrics, considered cuts, sizing drawn from real bodies — clothes for people who already know who they are.

We make a small number of pieces and make them properly: natural fibres that move air, colours that sit quietly beside each other, seams finished where nobody will see them. Enough to dress a week, not a personality.

Where it began

ASIWO started as a feeling most women in Ghana know: nothing fits right.

The hem sits wrong. The shoulder pulls. The waist fits but the hip does not. You learn to tolerate it, or you pay a tailor to undo what a factory decided about your body from somewhere far away.

ASIWO began there — not with a print or a trend, but with a fit. One pattern, adjusted until it stopped being a compromise. Then another. The clothes came after the fit, which is the opposite of how most of it is done.

Founder & Creative Director

Edem designs for the body she lives in. That is the whole method. Every sample is worn before it is approved — through Accra heat, a full workday, a car, a market, a dinner she did not plan to attend.

She is not interested in clothes that perform. She is interested in the quiet arithmetic of getting dressed: what you reach for first, what still looks considered at 6pm, what you would keep for ten years.

“They do not need their outfit to shout. They need it to confirm.”

How we work

01

Body first, print later

We draft to measurements taken here, in centimetres, across a real range of shapes — then grade up and down from a fit that already works. Solid colour, so the cut is the thing you notice.

02

Fabric for this weather

Cotton poplin, linen, viscose blends with weight and drape. Chosen for humidity and harmattan, not for a lookbook in another climate. If it does not breathe, we do not cut it.

03

Made in small runs

Sewn in Accra by a team paid properly and credited plainly. Small quantities mean fewer mistakes, less waste, and pieces that stay in the collection instead of disappearing next season.

The name

ASI holds the craft. WO holds the reality. One pair of hands is not enough.

The mark is five strands, interwoven — one hand learned the craft, many hands carry it forward. Pattern cutters, machinists, finishers, the woman who irons every shirt before it is folded.

Clothing as infrastructure: dependable, unremarkable in the best sense, there when you need it. That is what we are building, one piece at a time.
